Wikipedia pays off, disappoints, leads to wordplay
A few years ago some friends of mine were having a discussion about whether there was an opposite to sublimation: the change of a solid directly to gas, such as dry ice -> CO2. We were none of us chemists or physicists (me especially) so we bandied about the idea of such words as superlimation and eventually dropped the subject.
Wikipedia has settled the matter for me: the opposite of sublimation is deposition. That was sort of anticlimactic, but could yield some vaguely amusing science fiction: one could use SUPERPOWERS to depose a despot using deposition, turning the poor tyrant into a cloud of vapor, then give a deposition on the subject before a Committee.
Really vaguely amusing.
